For the past few years, the IT Decisions team has been telling everyone who would listen that the technology industry in Brazil is an exciting place to be – we moved from Europe to be a part of this industry.
It’s often been a hard sell. CIOs in the US and Europe have mostly viewed ‘offshore’ IT work as low-cost offshoring – not always true, but on the whole if a location can’t sell itself as lower cost then it will have trouble. Hopefully by writing in English and interviewing leading experts on Brazil, we have managed to:
- Make decision-makers outside Brazil aware of the enormous market for IT services here. Brazil’s domestic IT consumption is greater than that of India and China combined.
- Brazil is not a nearshoring destination at all. It doesn’t compete on cost, it competes on scale and competence.
So it’s interesting to see analysis like this in the Wall Street Journal. Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega is telling European countries to sort out structural issues in their economy before expecting any help from Brazil. China is making similar demands.
How times have changed…
