HfS: Govt should give incentives to IT providers

How do governments usually promote the IT sector in their country? Sponsor some trade missions where IT companies fly out to meet potential customers, or take out the ‘platinum’ sponsorship position at a big conference? How successful is that approach for a country like Brazil?

Not so great.

Phil Fersht, the founder and CEO of HfS Research believes that governments should be working with the IT suppliers, because when the suppliers get industry influencers to visit it gives the best possible understanding of the local capabilities… so why doesn’t the government focus efforts there and help more suppliers to get more visitors?

Check out this audio interview with Phil Fersht to hear this and other comments, including:

  • Payroll tax cuts in Brazil are not having a huge impact, but some corporates that already know Brazil are seeing it
  • The issue in Brazil has always been the costs and local taxes, so those who know the region better will have a better feel for the pricing and how it is changing
  • Brazil is getting more attractive in the long term
  • More case studies and examples are needed from the region
  • There needs to be a more coherent strategy for information about the sector – it took a long time to build in India, but they had the low cost attraction that Brazil does not
