US communications giant eyes growth in Brazil

Communications Test Design, the world’s largest independent communications repair and logistics provider, recently announced a joint venture with Brazilian firm Network UNO and is predicting significant growth from the partnership.

The combined organization will be called CTDI do Brasil and will be headquartered in the city of Campinas in the São Paulo state.

CTDI do Brasil will provide telecommunications carriers and original equipment customers in Brazil with services including wireline and wireless repair and logistics, engineering and network deployment services, telecom product engineering and manufacturing, IT system integration and equipment repair – such as set-top boxes.

IT Decisions asked CTDI’s international vice president Dave Burt about the reasons why the firm chose to expand in this way in Brazil.

“We established a repair and logistics facility in 2005 and it has grown nicely, but we saw an opportunity to combine with Network UNO last year, and the companies fit together well, so this is a great opportunity to grow and expand. With opportunities such as the Olympics and World Cup coming up, this is an exciting time for Brazil,” said Burt.

CTDI uses a number of bespoke software and hardware systems to support its business.

“We are definitely going to continue innovating our software systems with Network UNO. It’s valuable to show global customers that you have consistent platforms and we develop all of these in-house. At the moment we are not doing any software development in Brazil, but I would not rule that out for the future,” he said.

Although CTDI software systems are yet to developed in Brazil, the test lab at Campinas is already growing.

“We have consolidated our facilities into one lab and that is now a little more than twice the size of what CTDI had in Brazil before, so our lab is already undergoing expansion,” Burt explained.
